One of the number one things to do that is so simple to do to win is just fold more. Alot of people that have a hard time winning are simply playing to many hands. There are only 5 really premiem hands out of the combnation of 167 starting hands not counting suited cards. that leaves you folding a whole of the time. People just get bored and start getting out of line and playing hands better of in the muck but hey you have folded the last 20 hands and you are ready for some action so you play hands you shouldn't and that is where the problem starts. If you want to win more fold more sounds crazy but to win you must fold all those crap hands. You can't take a loser and make it a winner not often enough to turn a profit anyway. So stick to the good hands muck the crap and watch your profits go up. Remember to win more fold more and don't give away your profits on junk.

There are 1326 starting hands in Texas Hold'em and in my opinion about 17% are truly playable pre-flop and some of that 17% shouldn't be played out of position and also one shouldn't be calling big raises with some of them. It doesn't really leave a lot of hands left. If you find yourself seeing 25% or more flops, you're pretty loose, unless of course you're getting the cards.

Question: J10 Suited - Under the Gun in No Limit Texas Hold'em - should it be played religiously in that position? What do you think?

This is true Gob I was just leaving out all suited hands and yes around 20% is about the max number of hands you need to be playing I avg right at 20% and alot of times if the table will let me limp I do. J 10 suited UTG i'm folding 90% of the time unless I just got a super read on the table I know alot of people like to play that hand but me I just don't see the value in it. You get 2 limpers your like 40% and give them couple of overs and this drops down to like 30% so toss it.

 That's the answer I was looking for. A lot of people would play Jack Ten Suited from any position. Jack Ten in early position is a trap hand for the person who plays it, not the other people at the table.

So you were bluffin me to see if I would call huh Gob. Yep you see people try that hand all the time most of the time just bad results. Comin in that early you want at least better than 50 % even if you get a few callers that postion is a class A hand for sure.

To make a long story short, yes.

But take it as a compliment, I have grown to respect your posts and knowledge and just wanted other people to realize how selective and patient a winning player has to be. It is fine tuning your game and knowing when and where to play Jack Ten that is the difference between winning and really winning.

I always remember this when I look down at :9d::8d: under the gun and feel tempted to play it - especially after folding twenty or so hands prior to being dealt it.

Limit Poker is more about the bets you save than the bets you make.
