7 Card Stud Story
Posted On 08/13/2008 01:08:16

I was playing $10/$20 Stud at the casino the other day and a player comes to the table from a broken game and says some drunk stupid guy spilled his drink on the table and it ended the game, so that's why she was playing with us. About an hour later a guy with a white bandage on his black and blued arm sits at the table and proceeds to spread out some rocks, some acorns and a couple of dried leaves along with about $700 in chips. So a player at the table asks, "Well I have to ask you an obvious question in front of everyone so you can just answer once…what happened to your arm?" I am a little more intrigued by the array of leaves, rocks, acorns and also thinking about getting all his chips. So the guy responds, "I attacked a car the other day and was pounding on the car, hurt myself, but you, oh you my friend would have killed the guy!" I’m thinking now that's some good restraint there. I just had to say something, I said, "And all along I thought you might have tripped on some acorns…" A deadening silence looms over the table as we are all dealt our first three cards and our hero, we'll call him "Acorn" is the forced bet and exclaims, "Raise!" a couple of players call, I fold as I usually do. The hand goes to showdown and on his last bet as the final caller is calling Acorn yells, "Goodbye!" and he wins the hand with some silly two pair, like deuces and treys. I am utterly confused and enthralled as I watch good players pick bad spots to challenge this guy and they start losing to him and each time he says, "Goodbye." at the end of the hand. He also is saying re-raise every time he is the first bettor in the pot and as you know, you can’t re-raise if you are the first to bet. All the players are on tilt, it's quite entertaining I might add. So I don’t know what comes over me but I pick up Split Queens and raise I get 1 caller and our buddy Acorn decides to limp raise his forced bet, so I raise again to $30 the caller drops and lo and behold Acorn says, "Cap!" But anyone who knows poker to some degree knows that heads up there is no cap so I slowly slide out another $20 without saying anything making it now a total of $50 before the 4th card. What am I psycho? I am thinking to myself. The dealer informs Acorn that it’s another $10 to call so he just calls. I very rarely go to $50 on three cards let alone Queens, but I guess I am just nuts. To make a long story short, I fire on every street and win the hand with just a pair of Queens and start singing a Beatles tune, "You say Goodbye, and I say Hello, Hello, Hello!" Acorn unaffected by this says, "Man, nice hand, what a horrible night I am having, I just came from another table and I spilt my drink on the table and it was a complete mess. Geesh!" My reply, "That couldn't be you, the lady sitting in seat three said that it was some dumb drunk guy." The deadening silence begins again and Acorn gathers up his leaves, acorns, rocks and about $400 less chips and says "Nice playing with you all, I just can’t seem to win tonight, it's not my night." A quick note, the next day Acorn sits down at the table next to me and raises the very first hand he plays and a talkative Jamaican Guy jokingly says, "That’s not very nice." Acorn replies, "I do what I want, Shut Up!" This time I gathered up my chips and walked off. Two words come to my mind! "NUT JOB!" Hope you enjoyed my story, Acorn is a really scary guy and by the way he now had a bandage on each arm.

Poker Forum - Forums

The poker forum is a great place to find out information of upcoming events.  I'd like to see some more activity in the Stud Forum.  Seven Card Stud is a great game and extremely profitable if you can learn the basics.  There are a lot of new players trying it out.  Believe me, the competition in Stud is a lot easier to beat then the & Card Stud players.

The Jump Bet
Posted On 07/01/2008 00:55:51

Written May 1, 2008

Some of you may or may not know this about me, but a few years ago I was in a pretty serious car accident. I am lucky to be alive. I often have serious pains in my right leg, which at times can make me sweat. I have learned to live with the pain and I am surely not asking for sympathy.

The weather has been really good lately so I basically have come out of hibernation. This means I forget the pain and start walking faster when I am outside. I jump and skip like a child. I just love spring and the heat; I ride my bicycle and pop wheelies, ride recklessly and torment the tourists in my town.

I was playing poker 7 Card Stud today and had to share this story where my leg in fact won me a few extra dollars. I was playing well and looked down at split aces so I raised and got a few callers. I actually felt a sharp twinge in my leg at the start of the hand and bet every street, ignoring the pain. On the 7th Street (the river card) I looked down at a six of spades giving me a needed two-pair. I bet one last time and as I bet my leg cramped so badly I jumped out of my chair. Pokerprof was standing right next to me and had to leap out of the way of my soaring chair. The players at the table had an extremely puzzled look on their faces and all called because I guess they felt it was a bluff. I am sure at least one called with just a lone pair. I started to laugh and came back to the table and turned my hand face up. Aces UP Takes it Down! Thanks Leg!

I had to take a break and came back and rocked the table a little more. I guess I might have to take it easy on myself…hell no!

The Perfect Poker Hand
Posted On 04/22/2008 21:22:07

Gotta love hands like these! I was playing 10/20 Stud. This is almost the perfect scenario. Here we go: I have an Ace up with pocket 10s in the hole. (As 10s 10d) and my opponent Mike to my left a very solid poker player has a King up. I raise representing the Ace and he calls and my nemesis this weird guy who has a little dude that always seats him at the table. I mean this guy looks like a character out of Rocky Horror Picture Show wearing thick dark black rectangle sunglasses, you know the kind that people in their 70s wear over their bifocals. The hand before I tried to bluff a flush and he called me with a lone pair of Jacks so I figured he would think I was on Tilt so I raised and was thinking, “This is the hand I am going to get him with because he is a massive calling station maniac from some other planet!” Now I could write a book on this guy but that’s another story. If you’re interested ask me about when I told him that, “I didn’t know that being able to assault your opponent physically was part of poker.” Okay back to the story. So I raised the hand and of course he and Mike and just about everyone at the table calls. I am on Tilt right! On the drop is a 10 of clubs I am thinking cool so I continue with a bet and Mike and the “Outer Space Guy” call. Didn’t I mention he wears all black? Well his wife wears all white to the casino and she too has her little guy assistant that seats her at poker tables, she once called me with a pair of fives when I had a full house, just for fun I made her show, ooh I am getting the creeps now. So the Ten on the drop is a great card. And knowing that Mike is a solid player, I feel he is real far behind now but he just calls making me suspicious. Fifth Street is a pretty good card a ten of hearts. So I figure well I probably won’t be called by anyone now so jokingly I check my hand and Mike says, “Okay I’ll Bite” and of course the Man in Black does what we expect, NO! I didn’t expect this, he raises. I just smooth call to try and keep Mike in the hand and then the unthinkable happens, Mike raises! The Man in Black of course calls and then I bump it to cap! The Man in Black has to call, that's what he does. I check sixth again and Mike bets the Man in Black calls and then I bump it again, “Mike says I have to raise ya pal.” The Man in Black finally folds I look at Mike and say “Raise!” Mike puzzled by this says’ “What do you have Quads?!?!” I say nothing. Mike calls and I look at the river card for 5 seconds then I bet. Mike just calls. Mike had rolled Kings from jump and was drawing dead on 5th Street, a King was folded by my buddy in black. Mike had Kings Full of Sevens and my quads took it down.

Pot Size $650+ so for the week that’s MY BEST HAND STORY! I took the money and donated it to my favorite charity, Stop and Shop, and bought myself a nice sirloin! Never play on an empty stomach and watch out for the Man in Black!
